Products
Navigating the many CBD hemp oil products available can be confusing. But never fear – we are here to help. With a little research under your belt, you can be comfortable with your choice of product. That’s not to say that it might take a little trial and error as well.
In general, CBD hemp oil is available in tinctures, capsules and topicals. Other products available include vapes, edibles and drink mixes. Tinctures, capsules, edibles and drink mixes are ingested orally. Topicals (balms, creams and lotions) are applied directly onto the skin. Unflavored tinctures can be applied directly on the skin or they can be mixed with a base (such as coconut oil) to create a CBD hemp oil infused skin care product. CBD hemp oil may also be inhaled through the use of pen vaporizers (better known as vapes).
Each product can be used exclusively or in conjunction with each other. While it is extremely unlikely for anyone to overdose on CBD oil, taking too much provides no added benefit. Cannabidiol and other cannabinoids are known to be non-toxic, with no known fatal overdose levels ever reported.
With so many products and brands to choose from, the range of choices can be quite overwhelming. Tinctures
Tinctures are usually made with oil from hemp seed, coconut or palm MCT oil or even cod liver. Tinctures are produced with no added flavor (natural) or flavored with an extract such as peppermint. Tinctures are taken by squeezing a dropper of oil under the tongue. You can swish it around a little or just let it sit. There is no need to mix it with anything. While most people would not rave about the taste of CBD hemp oil, most don’t mind it. If the natural flavor doesn’t appeal to you, try one of the flavored tinctures. If you cannot tolerate the taste, a capsule may be a better alternative.
Important Concepts
The volume or total amount of CBD hemp oil, concentration of CBD hemp per bottle/serving and serving size are important concepts to know. Dosage of CBD hemp oil is based on concentration and volume. Dosages for each person will vary based on the desired outcome. Dosages can usually be reduced to a minimum needed to maintain the desired outcome. Dosage will also change according to a person’s health, levels of stress and sleep, food choices and environmental exposure. In addition, each manufacturer’s product will affect each person differently based on plant strains, manufacturing process and base oil.
Volume
Volume refers to the amount of product or size of bottle. Each bottle contains a specific volume of product [i.e., 10 ml (milliliter), 50 ml, 100ml, etc]. The volume usually determines the total amount of CBD in each bottle. Alternatively, some manufacturers maintain consistent bottle size and increase the concentration or strength of the product.
CBD Concentration or Strength
The concentration or strength of CBD or cannabidiols refers to the relative amount of CBD contained within a particular volume of solution. Each manufacturer produces products of different concentrations. Most manufactures produce one or two strengths of product. In either case, this is why the serving size of each bottle may vary.
Serving Size
The serving size is based on the concentration in a particular volume measurement (or number of capsules). It is usually expressed as a measurement of the dropper (i.e., ½ dropper is equivalent to 0.5 ml). Each serving size will be different depending on the concentration of the product and the manufacturer’s recommendation.
Total CBD Concentration per Bottle
Each bottle of tincture (or capsules) contains a total amount of CBD expressed in milligrams (mg). The total amount of CBD can be confirmed by multiplying the milligrams per serving by the number of servings. For example, a bottle that has 60 servings of 5 milligrams each has a total amount of 300 mg of CBD.
To increase the total amount of CBD in each bottle, the manufacture usually increases the volume of each bottle. Some manufactures increase the amount of CBD in each bottle by increasing the concentration. In this case, the volume of each bottle will remain the same.
Capsules
Capsules are a convieniet way to take CBD hemp oil. There are many different types of capsules available. Capsules may be filled with either oil or powder. Similar to tinctures, the total amount of CBD in each bottle is based on the number of capsules and the concentration of CBD in each capsule. Capsules typically contain 15 mg of CBD. However, capsules can range from 10 mg, 25 mg up to 50 mg of CBD.
Liposomal CBD
Liposomal CBD is a delivery system that encapsulates CBD hemp oil into nanoparticles, bringing the power of intravenous delivery into a convenient oral ingestion. Nanoparticles consist of natural phospholipids that support cellular health and enable CBD hemp oil to be delivered directly into the cell. Liposomal CBD is very popular with athletes. A typical dose for liposomal CBD is a third of traditional oil based CBD products. The liposomal CBD hemp oil we carry is from Quicksilver Scientific. Since its works very quickly, it’s a great product to carry around for immediate use.
Topicals
Typically, you don’t have to worry about the dosage of topicals. They are applied to the skin liberally to get the desired effect (i.e., to relieve sore muscles or joints). On the other hand, it is important to pay attention to the dosage of capsules and tinctures. Depending on the health condition, many people try out the topicals initially and move toward a tincture or capsule.
When to take CBD Hemp Oil
CBD hemp oil should be taken in divided doses 2 to 3 times per day. It is recommended that clients NOT TAKE CBD HEMP OIL RIGHT BEFORE BEDTIME. Although CBD hemp oil is used to improve sleep and is non-psychoactive it can induce vivid dreams if taken right before bedtime.
What is the Right Dosage?
Dosing suggestions should be used as a guide to help you get the most out of taking CBD hemp oil. Like most nutrition or dietary supplements, CBD hemp oil is not meant to treat any specific ailment, but rather provide the body with an opportunity to heal. Whether you change your diet, get more sleep, reduce stress or work to improve digestion, the idea to is reduce overall inflammation in the body. CBD hemp oil may be used as a complement to those efforts. Since CBD oil works differently in each person, it is important to determine what works for you. Each person’s experience may depend on a number of factors – their health, the health of their endocannabinoid system, the delivery method, and even the manufacturer.
It’s best to start with a small dosage of CBD and then slightly raise this dosage until you achieve the desired result. You must listen to your body and ask yourself if you notice any changes. A mistake that many people make is that they use CBD hemp oil for only for a short period of time and give up before it has a chance to work. In most cases, health issues have built-up for years, and it takes a while for the body to begin to heal. CBD can often lead to a rapid decrease of health-related complaints, but you have to give your body time to recover. Using CBD hemp oil can provide your body with these healing opportunities.
When first starting out, a commonly recommended dosage is between 5-15 mg of CBD oil hemp oil per day. Increase this amount by 5-15 mg per day during the first 3-4 weeks or until you experience a reduction of your symptoms. As the dosage increases, remember to divide the doses 2-3 times throughout the day.
Divide the dosages evenly throughout the day, rather than all at once. Divide the overall dosage between 2-3 times each day: morning, afternoon, and early evening. Remember; it is not recommended to take CBD hemp oil right before you go to bed. Although CBD hemp oil is non-psychoactive, it can induce vivid dreams.
If you do not experience a reduction of the symptoms after 3-4 weeks, you should increase dosage until you experience the desired result. You should experiment a little. Examine what you are feeling and whether you think it works well for you. After a certain amount of time you will have found the right dosage.
General benefit dosages are reported to be around 15 to 30 mg per day. Dosages above 180 mg per day generally do not provide any added benefit. These dosages may be cut down by ¼ based on a person’s experience.
Below are some general CBD dosage recommendations:
1. Start with smaller dosages
When beginning CBD, it’s best to start with smaller dosages. Everyone reacts differently to various supplements. As with any new product, it is important to become familiar with how your body responds to CBD before increasing the dose.
2. Make adjustments early
It’s rare, but occasionally CBD does not agree with someone. In that case, either discontinue use or reduce the dosage. Make adjustments early in your use to accommodate your body’s needs. If you don’t have problems with CBD hemp oil you can aggressively increase the dosage as needed. Remember, everyone is different and what worked for a friend or family member may not work for you. Either way, it’s important to be consistent and patient.
3. Monitoring
It’s a good idea to monitor the amount of CBD hemp oil you are taking. Start with keeping track each day of the number of dosages and timing. It’s easy to lose track of how much you are taking, which makes it a challegne to determine future needs.
4. Consult a medical professional
Consider discussing CBD hemp oil with your doctor. If you have a medical condition, always consult with a health care professional before consuming any nutritional or dietary supplements such as CBD hemp oil.
