Welcome to this three part series to help you choose and use CBD Hemp Oil.
Part 1: Choosing the Right Product
Part 2: How many milligrams of CBD are in a dropper?
Part 3: When to take CBD Hemp Oil
Unlike capsules, trying to figure out how much CBD is a dropper of tincture can be a little confusing. Hopefully the following discussion will take out some the confusion surrounding the use of CBD. The volume or total amount of CBD hemp oil, concentration of CBD hemp per bottle and serving size are important concepts to know. Dosage of CBD hemp oil is based on concentration and volume. Dosages for each person will vary based on the desired outcome.

Volume
Volume refers to the amount of product or size of bottle. Each bottle contains a specific volume of product [i.e., 10 ml (milliliter), 30 ml, 50 ml, 100ml, etc].
CBD Concentration or Strength
The concentration or strength of CBD refers to the relative amount of CBD contained within a particular volume of solution. Each manufacturer produces products of different concentrations. Most manufactures produce 2-3 strengths of product. In either case, this is why the serving size of each bottle may vary.
Serving Size
The serving size is based on the concentration in a particular volume measurement. It is usually expressed as a measurement of the dropper (i.e., ¼, ½, ¾ or 1 full dropper). Each serving size will be different depending on the concentration of the product and the manufacturer’s recommendation. A full dropperful of oil for the most common size bottle, 30 ml. (1 ounce) is 1 ml. A full dropperful of oil for the larger size bottles, 100 or 120 ml. is 2 ml.
The following chart breaks down the amount of CBD in a dopperful for some common concentrations in a 30 ml (one ounce) size bottle from manufacturers such as Functional Remedies or Boulder Hemp.
250 mg Tincture (30 ml bottle)
Dropper CBD Servings per bottle
Full (1 ml) 8.3 mg 30
Half (.5 ml) 4.2 mg 60
500 mg Tincture (30 ml bottle)
Dropper CBD Servings per bottle
Full (1 ml) 16.7 mg 30
Half (.5 ml) 8.4 mg 60
1000 mg Tincture (30 ml bottle)
Dropper CBD Servings per bottle
Full (1 ml) 33.3 mg 30
Half (.5 ml) 16.7 mg 60
Quarter (.25 ml) 8.3 mg 120
The addition of CBD hemp oil is intended to interact with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system (ECS). It may help supplement the body’s natural production of endocannabinoids and/or interact with the ECS receptors. People usually find a dose that alleviates their symptoms (25-50 mg mild, 50-100 mg moderate, 100-150 mg severe) or provides a healing opportunity to encourage other diet and lifestyle changes that promote a healthy lifestyle.
Keep adjusting the dose, timing and frequency to meet your particular needs. Many users are able to reduce their CBD hemp oil dose to 1/4 of their acute dose after 2-3 months. Use the monthly dosing chart to figure out how many bottles of CBD you need to meet your need.
Liposomal CBD Hemp Oil
Unlike traditional CBD hemp oil, dosages for Liposomal products such as Quicksilver Scientific Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract are generally 1/3 of the higher end of the normal tincture range. Refer to following blogs for more information on serving size of Liposomal products such as Quicksilver Scientific Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum Hemp:

CBD Hemp Oil Titration
Once you’ve gotten your hemp oil tincture or capsule, your next step will be finding your optimal dose. Ultimately, your optimal dose will depend on several factors including how well your body metabolizes the product, the severity and type of symptoms, diet and lifestyle, deficiency of endocannabinoids, level of inflammation, etc. We always recommend starting low and going slow until symptom alleviation is achieved. Consider the following when titrating your CBD hemp oil:
-
- Start with smaller dosages– When beginning CBD hemp oil, it’s best to start with smaller dosages. Everyone reacts differently to various supplements. As with any new product, it is important to become familiar with how your body responds to CBD before increasing the dose.
- Make adjustments early– It’s rare, but occasionally CBD does not agree with someone. In that case, either discontinue use or reduce the dosage. Make adjustments early in your use to accommodate your body’s needs. If you don’t have problems with CBD hemp oil you can aggressively increase the dosage as needed. Remember, everyone is different and what worked for a friend or family member may not work for you. Either way, it’s important to be consistent and patient.
- Monitoring – It’s a good idea to monitor the amount of CBD hemp oil you are taking. Start with keeping track each day of the number of dosages and timing. It’s easy to lose track of how much you are taking, which makes it a challenge to determine future needs.
Dosages for each person will vary based on the desired outcome. Dosages can usually be reduced to a minimum needed to maintain the desired outcome. Dosage will also change according to a person’s health, levels of stress and sleep, food choices and environmental exposure. In addition, each manufacturer’s product will affect each person differently based on plant strains, manufacturing process and base oil. Use the following chart to keep track of your use.
