At the CBD Garage, our mission is to provide products that support our customers’ vitality and pursuit of health. But the quest for living your best life extends beyond just supplements.
If you are reading this, you probably take CBD and other supplements to address a health need such as better sleep, less aches and pains or stress management. Our choices and behaviors, or habits, can either support or sabotage the very reason we take CBD in the first place!
If you take CBD for better sleep, we all know that bad sleep habits – reading electronics before bed, maintaining an irregular sleep schedule, consuming too much caffeine or alcohol are counterproductive to a good night of rest. Likewise, we know that being physically inactive, not stretching and eating poorly can contribute to aches and pains.
So how do we develop the skills needed to develop better habits and enhance the very reason we take CBD in the first place?
Commitment.
Previously, we wrote about two of the three pillars of the Wim Hof Method, cold showers for inflammation and pain and breathing for stress relief. The third pillar is, you guessed it, commitment! Any lifestyle changes or modifications can’t be done without commitment. Commitment is a critical component to healing that is often overlooked and difficult to put into practice.
The three pillars combined unlock a multitude of benefits
Commitment the foundation for the other two techniques of the Wim Hof Method. Why? It takes patience and dedication for cold exposure and breathing to be fully mastered. Commitment may seem a little bit more abstract and esoteric than the other two pathways as it is more of a mind-set and attitude than a physical act.
Master your own body and mind
While most of us don’t need the commitment of the Iceman (the guy who holds two dozen world records in cold exposure and other extreme events), we can all benefit from the practice. While commitment to breathing exercises and cold showers is a great accomplishment, we can also benefit by extending it to other areas of our lives.
But how do we develop the willpower and self-control and put commitment into practice?
Luckily for us, James Clear, in his book Atomic Habits spells out a step-by-step method to do just that. He explains how to master tiny behaviors that lead to your desired results. We often dismiss small incremental changes because they don’t see to make a difference. What is 5 minutes of yoga going to do for my nagging back pain? Not much till you do it every day and eventually develop a lasting yoga practice.
Become the best version of yourself
How many of us start out the new year with great intentions with the goal of getting in shape each year only to fizzle out by February. In his book, James notes that our goals and intentions are good, but we don’t have the systems in place to make them happen. He argues, rather than trying to take massive action, we need to make small incremental changes through the formation of good habits.
Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement
Unfortunately, we often dismiss small changes because they don’t seem to matter much. And this slow pace of transformation also makes it easy to let a bad habit slide. For example, if we sit around one day we can probably recover from the stiffness. But if we continue to be physically inactive our joints and muscles will begin the ache. Atomic Habits will teach you a system to develop good habits and get rid of the bad.
Making 1 percent improvement each day can accumulate into remarkable results
So, whether you are an elite athlete or just someone who wants to feel better, this book is for you! I think you will find the book, Atomic Habits, a perfect companion to take on your health journey. When you finish the book, purchase the companion journal to keep track of your practice.
While you have committed to taking CBD to bring your body into balance, boost your efforts by committing to good habits that support your health journey.
